A Locals Only Blog, powered by curiosity… and peer pressure
We asked. You answered. And honestly… you did not disappoint.
We polled our friends, followers, and fellow beer lovers across Bozeman to find out where we had to go. The result? Three breweries that came up again and again. Like… aggressively recommended.
Now here’s the twist.
I’m Gunner. And I don’t love beer. I wouldn’t even say I like it lol.
So naturally, I recruited backup.
Enter: Tatum (our fearless leader, beer enthusiast, and former brewery girlie) and Sarah (our Project Manager who absolutely knows her way around a tasting flight). Their mission? Convince me that maybe, just maybe, beer isn’t the enemy.
So we set out on a very official, very serious brewery tour of the best breweries in Bozeman. For research. Obviously.
Stop #1: Bridger Brewing
Address: 1609 S 11th Ave, Bozeman, MT 59715
Right out of the gate, this one felt like home.
Not only is Bridger Brewing a local staple, it also happens to be part of Tatum’s origin story. Yes… our boss lady used to work here, back in the day before being FUNKY FRESH was a 'thing'.
Walking in, we were immediately hit with a double dose of pride because our Intrigue Ink art prints are currently hanging on their gallery walls. And yes… they are for sale. And yes… you should absolutely go buy one.
We were lucky enough to have Jeff as our server. Jeff, if you’re reading this, you carried the experience on your back. He built us a full-on tasting wheel so we could try a little bit of everything without committing to a full pint. Which, for me, was ideal.
The vibe: Classic Bozeman brewery energy. Lively, welcoming, and the kind of place you could hang for hours.
The experience: A perfect intro into the beer world without feeling intimidating.
The Tasting Wheel
Jeff built us a full tasting wheel that included:
Disco Juice Hazy Pale, Vigilante IPA, Chasin Haze IPA, Pacific, Peach, Weir, and Porter.
And because that wasn’t enough… we also got a taster of the Kettle Sour.
The Verdict
- Tatum’s pick: Chasin Haze IPA. She loves a good hazy IPA and this one sealed the deal.
- Sarah’s pick: Porter. A little out of her norm but it surprised her in the best way.
-
Gunner’s journey:
Tried both favorites hoping for a life-changing moment… and had thoughts.
The porter gave chocolate vibes but wasn’t quite it. Hazy beers? Also not the vibe. Which was devastating considering something called Disco Juice had very high expectations.
But then… a breakthrough.
- Gunner’s pick: Peach. Citrusy, light, and not overwhelming.
- Plot twist order: The Kettle Sour. Will become his go-to.
We were on a bit of a time crunch, so we thanked Jeff (again… shoutout) and made our way to stop number two.
Stop #2: Mountains Walking Brewery & Pub
Address: 422 N Plum Ave, Bozeman, MT 59715
Okay… this is where things got serious.
At Mountains Walking Brewery & Pub, we didn’t just drink beer… we got an education.
We had the chance to sit down with Gus, one of the owners and a self-proclaimed “dorky chemist” and honestly… respectfully, it shows. In the best way. Gus walked us through a curated tasting flight. And when I say walked us through it, I mean really walked us through it. Flavor profiles, brewing techniques, inspiration behind each beverage… the whole thing.
It felt like a masterclass but way more fun and with significantly better lighting.
We even got a behind-the-scenes look at the brewing facilities, which made the whole experience feel super personal and intentional.
The vibe: Elevated but still approachable. You can tell they care deeply about the craft.
The experience: Educational in the best way possible. Like… I might actually know what I’m talking about now? Dangerous.
What We Tried
Our flight included:
Yamabiko, Yabai Tanuki, Yuzu Seltzer, and Sky Flowers Tropical.
We also ordered the must-have cauliflower wings. They live up to the hype.
Before heading out, we squeezed in one more: a Lychee Seltzer. Because obviously we needed more.
The Vibe + The Extras
- Inspired heavily by Japanese flavors
- Mountains Walking has about 10 years in the game
- Woodfire pizza oven burning cherry wood
- Frozen slushies with rotating flavors - Great in the summer!
- Seltzers available in cans for a take-home moment
Tasting Notes + Favorites
- Sky Flowers Tropical: A 3-time award winner and currently competing again at the Skunkworks Lounge competition during the Craft Brewers Conference. So yes… it’s a must-try.
- Tatum’s pick: Yabai Tanuki
-
Gunner’s pick: Yamabiko
This was a moment. A beer he would actually order a full pint of. It is made super dry, then calibrated incredibly light… like lighter than water somehow. Science. Magic. Gus things.
Seltzer Moment
- Sarah’s pick: Yuzu Seltzer. Juicy, light, and none of that typical seltzer aftertaste.
- Pro tip: Add mezcal. Trust.
All in all… this place was a dream.
Stop #3: MAP Brewing Company
Address: 510 Manley Rd, Bozeman, MT 59715
We saved the views for last.
MAP Brewing Company is that spot. The one people tell you about and you’re like “okay sure” and then you get there and you’re like… oh. OH.
It’s stunning.
We grabbed a tasting flight, ordered a basket of fries with every dipping sauce available (non-negotiable), and posted up overlooking the water with the mountains doing their thing in the background. It felt very main character.
This was probably the most relaxed stop of the day. Less structured, more vibes, lots of laughs.
The vibe: Scenic, laid-back, borderline romantic if you squint.
The experience: The perfect place to sip, snack, and pretend you’re in a Montana tourism ad.
What We Tried
- Midas Crush (because it’s Hank’s favorite… our "Sales, Man" knows what’s up)
- Sunshine
- Little Daisies (Strawberry Chamomile Sour)
- Nitro Stout
The Verdict
- Midas Crush? Solid across the board. We all agreed.
- Nitro Stout? Gunner thought coffee vibes might save him… they did not.
- Little Daisies? The star of the show.
The Winner of the Day
For the first time all day… we unanimously agreed.
Little Daisies was THAT girl.
Sweet, smooth, and an instant yes from all three of us. We will all absolutely be going back for a full pint.
Bonus Points
- Unreal views
- Gluten-reduced options
Final Thoughts (From a Non-Beer Guy)
Listen. I’m not about to come out of this claiming I’m suddenly a beer connoisseur.
But…
I did find a few that I would absolutely drink again. Which feels like growth.
Each spot brought something different to the table:
- MAP Brewing Company: The views
- Bridger Brewing: The vibes
- Mountains Walking Brewery & Pub: The full experience
And me? Still not a full-on beer guy…
But I found a few I’d drink again. Which feels like a win.
Whether you’re a die-hard beer lover or someone like me who usually orders anything but beer, these spots prove that the brewery scene in Bozeman has something for everyone.
The Takeaway
These weren’t just random picks. These were the most recommended breweries by our community. And after spending a day hopping between them… we get why.
So if you’re looking for the best breweries in Bozeman, start here.
Then go form your own opinions.
Then report back.
Because we’re always ready for round two.
