How To Keep Different Kinds of Fruit Fresh

Keeping fruit fresh is like preserving a little slice of summer for just a bit longer. With the right tricks, your berries won't go from juicy to sorry overnight. And let's face it, there's something deeply satisfying about outsmarting nature's clock, one crisp apple at a time.

Apples:

Store in the refrigerator to keep them fresh longer.

Keep away from ethylene-sensitive fruits like strawberries to prevent them from ripening too quickly.

Bananas:

Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.

Once ripe, you can refrigerate them to extend their life; the skin may darken, but the fruit inside will stay fresh.

 Berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries):

Store in the refrigerator, preferably in a ventilated container lined with paper towels to absorb moisture.

Don't wash until you're ready to eat them to prevent mold.

Citrus Fruits (oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits):

Store in the refrigerator to extend their freshness.

They can also be kept at room temperature if you'll consume them within a week.

Grapes:

Store in the refrigerator, ideally in a perforated plastic bag.

Keep them dry and only wash right before eating.

Melons (watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew):
Store whole melons at room temperature until ripe.
Once cut, store in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
Avocados:
Store at room temperature until ripe.
Once ripe, refrigerate to slow down further ripening.
Tomatoes:
Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, until ripe.
Refrigerate ripe tomatoes to extend their shelf life, but let them come back to room temperature before eating for better flavor.
Pineapples:
Store at room temperature until ripe.
Once ripe, you can refrigerate whole pineapples or store cut pineapple in an airtight container in the fridge.
Stone Fruits (peaches, plums, cherries):
Store at room temperature until ripe.
Once ripe, refrigerate to prolong freshness.
Pears:
Store at room temperature until they ripen.
Once ripe, refrigerate them to keep them fresh longer.
Mangoes:
Store at room temperature until they ripen.
Once ripe, refrigerate to extend their freshness.
